UCAM and Astrapace launch a course on social networking for young people with disabilities

The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and the Astrapace Association have strengthened their collaboration with the launch of the course 'Learning by communicating', an innovative training project aimed at people with intellectual disabilities that will begin in April and will run until November.

The course is aimed at people with intellectual disabilities.

The course, designed and coordinated by the International Chair of Social Responsibility of the UCAM, seeks to provide tools for proper and critical use of social networks, promoting digital inclusion and personal development of participants, according to municipal sources reported in a statement.

The presentation of this initiative has taken place in the Monastery of Los Jeronimos, headquarters of the University, in a meeting between the president of the UCAM, Maria Dolores Garcia, and the president of Astrapace, Rosa Garcia, who have reaffirmed their commitment to promote inclusive training and support for the group of people with disabilities.

The trainer and job coach of the Employment Service Astrapace, José María Guirado, stressed that this activity "seems very attractive and innovative, because social networks are booming and people with disabilities also have to be included in all areas of society and its progress."

Guirado has also stressed the value of the course as a pilot project, in which young people from the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy of Astrapace will participate.

For his part, the director of the International Chair of Social Responsibility, Victor Meseguer, has stressed the importance of the personalized nature of this training. "Through continuous assessment we will be able to provide individualized guidance to each student so that they can constantly improve their skills," he said.

The head of social networks of the Chair, Laura Callejón, said that the main objective of the course is that "children learn to use social networks safely, knowing both their benefits and risks, and can feel protagonists of the digital world."

The program consists of monthly sessions lasting an hour and a half, which will take place in the facilities of the Faculty of Communication of the UCAM, including radio and television studios.
